A descendant of the Ferretti Pershing 82, the new 84’ 8X is an aggressive, sleek and sporty update with an aerodynamic profile and a few new features. We will look at it in comparison to another sporty but smaller yacht, the 59’ Azimut S6. Also an update of the 2018 S7, it is the smallest offering from the brand’s new collection.
Engine
The Pershing 8X sports yacht is powered by two 2435 hp MTUs and can reach up to 45 knots for a cruise of 38. Its maximum cruising range is 320 nautical miles. There is an option to add on a second propulsion system that would push the Pershing to a top speed in excess of 48 knots.
The Azimuth S6, like its predecessor, features a triple 550 hp Volvo Penta D8 IPS700S propulsion system. The Volvo propulsion system has been a part of Azimut’s trademark designs for the past six years and is renowned for being very powerful and responsive to steering. Its single throttle lever and joystick offer excellent control. It can achieve speeds of 35 knots with a combined 1650 hp.
Exterior
Thanks to the work of Fulvio De Simoni and the Ferretti engineering team, the Pershing 8X features the distinct Ferretti side wings and a 15 square meter sundeck accented by teak flooring. The stark black steel stairs leading up to the sundeck come with two handrails, and are integrated into one of the side wings. Besides being aesthetically unique, this also allows for a roomier cockpit.
The body has been extensively built using lighter carbon fiber that helps boost speed and provide larger room on board. One of the most impressive and standout features of the Pershing 8X is its music hull. Embedded within it are high definition loudspeakers that pump music underwater for the pleasure of divers and swimmers.
The S6 also features plenty of carbon construction courtesy of Stefano Righini. This sports cruiser is also familiarly sleek with its snub-nosed bow and hull side glazing. With a hull deadrise of 21.2 degrees amidships and flattening to about 15.5 degrees aft, the small but powerful S6 takes on harsh conditions well.
Interiors
The Pershing 8X features a well-lit cockpit area with glass walls and doors all around. The main deck measures 50 square meters, providing enough space for a living area, dining table and helm station. Above the helm station, there is also a dark sliding roof.
On the lower deck, the Pershing 8X offers four cabins. A full master suite in the center, a VIP suite to the bow and two additional guest suites with a shared bath along the corridor. The master cabin is a spacious 20 square meters with a walk-in closet and bathroom.
Designed by Francisco Guida, the interiors of the S6 come in a cool color scheme, with oak veneers of varied shades used to define the spaces. Light colored leather and fabrics, with steel detailing do a good job of complementing the ample light allowed through by large windows on both decks and the glass sunroof.
The lower level galley provides a nice view of the starboard side from the salon. The lower deck provides three cabins, with the master being midship and the VIP to the bow. The suites come with generous headroom but shared access to the bathroom for the VIP and twin cabin suite.
